Volunteering and giving back to the community has always been something close to my heart and a cornerstone for our business. Over the years, we have sought out ways to donate our services while partnering ourselves with organizations that share our same values. In doing this, we have partnered with some amazing organizations that are doing a tremendous work in and around the Jackson area for children and families including Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS). If you are a photographer, I encourage you to research this organization and consider volunteering for them. They are always in need of talented photographers with a heart and compassion for families suffering the loss of a child. It is truly a way of giving a priceless gift to a family.
We’ve volunteered and worked with several churches, food banks, adoption organizations, hospitals and animal rescues over the last few years but a few months ago, it was impressed upon my heart that we were suppose to start our own giving program to help make an impact in our community. At first, I honestly didn’t know how we were suppose to help or how to even go about setting up a program to reach out to others; this was all new to us. All I knew for certain was that we were suppose to do something with the talents that we have been given.
After a lot of prayers and careful consideration, we realized we have been so blessed to help create a beautiful, lasting portrait legacy for so many families with healthy children – we knew we were suppose to help create the same type of portrait legacy for families facing a life-threatening illness with their child. Out of that realization, I am so excited and honored to introduce: THE GRACE RISING PROJECT.
WHAT IS THE GRACE RISING PROJECT?
The Grace Rising Project is a photography session package that has been created for families with children (birth to 17 years old) that have been diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and is currently undergoing treatment or under a doctor’s care for the condition. This session is for families facing an uncertain future for their diagnosed child.
WHAT IS THE COST TO FAMILIES FOR THIS SESSION?
Families receive the digital files to archive and a limited print release for printing at no cost. There is no fee involved for the session itself or the digital files. Prints may be purchased from a professional print lab at an exclusive price to only cover our expense. Families will need to sign a model release prior to the session.
WHO IS INCLUDED IN THE SESSION?
The immediate family of the child is included in the portraits: parent(s), child and any siblings.
HOW OFTEN ARE SESSIONS AVAILABLE?
There are a very limited number of sessions available per month, and they are booked on a first come, first served basis only. The Grace Rising Project is reserved for families that have NOT had a professional portrait session in the last 18 months.
WHERE WILL THE SESSION TAKE PLACE?
Sessions will take place either in the hospital environment or preferably, in the child’s home. Photographing in the child’s home will allow us to capture them in their own, comfortable surroundings with parents and any siblings. We photograph these sessions in a documentary/storytelling style to capture true emotion and interaction without the pressures or stress of being posed. Most often, we spend a majority of the day with a family capturing the small interactions and normal activities that occur.
HOW DOES A FAMILY RECEIVE THIS SESSION?
A family can be nominated by completing a small contact form on our site. It is important to provide as much necessary information about the family, child and medical situation as possible to help us choose a family for the next session availability. Once we receive the nomination form, we will reach out to the family and let them know that they have been nominated and by whom. If they decide they would like to receive the session, we will assist the family in scheduling a time, completing any necessary paperwork and preparing for the session.
WHO CAN WE CONTACT WITH ANY QUESTIONS?
It is our hope that this small gesture will let a family know that someone else outside of their immediate circle truly cares about their situation and wants to give them a reason to smile.
